Professional Handling of our Animals

This enables people to have an intimate experience with wildlife, and ensures we meet with the strict regulations based around handling times.

The welfare of ALL our animals is so important to us, especially our handling critters.

This means we have extremely high standards of care and have procedures in place to minimize stress and maximize comfort for all our furry (and not so furry!) friends.

A percentage of the proceeds for koala and wombat handling goes towards:

  1. Wildlife research around Australia , helping existing conditions of our wild native animals.
  2. In the interest of conservation, we have established a self-sustaining plantation. Maintaining our substantial Eucalypt plantation requires significant resources (each koala at the Billabong Sanctuary requires 500 gum trees per year!).
  3. Employment and training of staff is essential to look after these extraordinary animals
  4. One of the many advantages our captive animals have over their wild counterparts is that they are monitored on a regular basis and expert veterinary care is always available.Wombat
  5. Enclosure design, construction and maintenance is essential for housing of our native animals and can require substantial resources.
  6. Billabong Sanctuary requires a large population of koalas.
