Education Billabong
Secondary Education page
The unique outdoor classroom of Billabong Sanctuary offers an ideal opportunity to observe different ecosystems and the relationships that define them.
Students can witness nature at work, form the specifics of single animals, to the dynamics of larger systems. Tertiary qualified staff will guide your class, and the hands on activities will engage learners to discover the wonders of the Australian natural environment.
Billabong outdoor education for high school students is based on the Education Queensland science/multi-strand curriculum. All five lessons below have been formulated in conjunction with teachers and students in the public and private schools throughout Townsville. We are proud to offer a unique education experience of extremely high quality…. But most importantly…. It's FUN!!!
Choose between:

In addition, you are more than welcome to suggest your own lesson topic, and our Education Rangers are happy to meet with you to organize a program to suit you. Our aim is to provide you and your students with an education resource that you can return to again and again!
ALL VISITS CAN INCLUDE:
Private tuition and HANDS-ON encounters with a wide variety of Australian wildlife!- THE BIG CROC FEED!!!
- Hand feeding of the free-ranging animals such as kangaroos and water birds.
- Meet some rare and endangered North Queensland wildlife, including cassowaries, quolls and northern bettongs.
Supervision
The Billabong Sanctuary has company policies regarding supervision requirements. One adult for every ten students is required when not supervised by a Ranger.
High School groups are therefore encouraged to book their visit to coincide with the duration of the lesson (approx 2 1/2 hrs inc. a meal break) as there will be a ranger present for this time. You and your students are more than welcome to have “free-time” after the lesson, but the adult to student ratio of 1:10 must be met.
