Education Billabong

Primary School

CrocodilesBillabong Sanctuary's curriculum based education programs for primary schools are designed to provide a thrilling insight into the wonders of Australian wildlife. Whilst the focus is on learning, students can't help but have fun as they get hands on with some of Australia 's favourite critters.

Our knowledgeable staff are experienced in interpreting all facts of the Billabong environment, and can present information in a fresh and exciting way.

Education Australian Native AnimalsYour visit can include time with a ranger, as well as teacher or adult supervised time to allow your students the freedom to explore the sanctuary.

We currently run four multi-age outdoor education lessons, based on the Education Queensland Science Curriculum for primary schools. You can choose from:

Grades 1-2: The needs of living things

What do Australian animals need to survive? Join a Billabong Sanctuary ranger to find out.

Your visit will include hands on encounters with many of the animals you are learning about, not to mention a great big sense of fun.

Grades 3-4: Different groups of Aussie animals

KoalasMammals, reptiles, marsupials. You have heard the names before. But what do they look and feel like?

Your class will be guided by a Billabong Sanctuary ranger as they find out why marsupial babies are born looking like jelly beans, and why snakes don't like the cold, amongst many other things.

A keen sense of adventure is needed as this visit will include lots of touching the animals.

Grades 5-6: Animal adaptations

A fantastic look into how Australian animals are designed for their environments. And to top it off, the visit will finish with a special croc feeding, focusing on how crocodiles hunt for their food.
